Bristol, 27 August 2025 – Calyo will showcase its pioneering Driven by Sound project at Cenex Expo 2025 (3–4 September, UTAC Millbrook, Bedfordshire), exhibiting under the Innovate UK umbrella at stand C3-309 in the Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) Zone, Exhibition Hall 3. Visitors will also be able to experience Calyo’s automated “Driven by Sound” car outside in the Steering Pad SP-18.

At the centre of the exhibition is Calyo’s world-first 3-D ultrasound sensing platform. Unlike cameras or conventional LiDAR, the system adds a road-ready, resilient perception layer that complements other sensors, enabling automated vehicles to safely navigate even in fog, rain, dust, glare or darkness. This novel approach provides a robust, redundant layer of sensing critical for trusted Connected and Automated Mobility.

The Driven by Sound project is supported by Innovate UK’s Commercialising CAM Supply Chain programme and delivered in partnership with Benedex Robotics and Cranfield University. Together, the consortium is developing a functional safety module capable of performing Minimal Risk Manoeuvres (MRMs) – bringing vehicles safely to a halt in the event of system failures. This breakthrough capability addresses one of the most pressing challenges in automated driving: ensuring safety when things go wrong.

Mihai Caleap, CEO of Calyo, said:

Our 3-D ultrasound sensors are unique in the world and redefine what’s possible for automated mobility. Cenex Expo is the UK’s showcase for Connected and Automated Mobility, and we’re proud to demonstrate, alongside our partners, how sound can deliver safety, resilience, and trust in autonomy.

Where to Find Calyo at Cenex Expo 2025

  • Inside Pod – C3-309: Explore Calyo’s ultrasound technology and learn how the Driven by Sound project is building safer automated systems. Visitors can also see a small robot equipped with Calyo Pulse, developed in collaboration with Benedex Robotics, demonstrating the versatility of ultrasound sensing across platforms.

  • Outside Steering Pad – SP-18: Take part in a live demo of the automated “Driven by Sound” car, powered by ultrasound perception and delivered in partnership with Cranfield University, showing how road-ready 3-D ultrasound sensors enhance autonomous vehicle safety in real-world conditions.

Calyo is one of a select group of companies chosen by Innovate UK to exhibit under its umbrella at Cenex Expo 2025. Innovate UK’s stands highlight multiple programmes, including Connected and Automated Mobility, Battery Innovation, DRIVE35, Net Zero Data Exchange, Sustainable & Accessible Mobility, and others demonstrating the impact of UK government-backed innovation in net-zero and connected mobility.
